Our Story...

Know more about your food… buy directly from your farmer.

Barnbarroch is a family-run organic beef and sheep farm near Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, in the idyllic countryside of south-west Scotland. As farmers, we focus on nature friendly, organic farming to produce quality meat from our family to you.

At Barnbarroch we are committed to improving the soil, land and the animals that we manage. We are proud that we have been fully organic since 1999. We utilise regenerative farming methods which improves the soil and enhances carbon capture, through grass management, ruminating animals, mob and rotational grazing.

We have minimal bought-in farm inputs and champion environmental schemes to enhance the biodiversity of our farm and the health of our animals.

We believe in supporting the local community by offering our quality produce to people in our area – promoting #localfoodforlocalpeople. Family is at the heart of our farm. By sharing our love of animals and the outdoors with our children, we believe this is one of the best environmental investments we can make.

Barnbarroch farm is certified organic by the Soil Association and all of our animals have a full organic life. Sadly our abattoir and butcher are not organically certified, so our beef loses its organic status when it gets processed.

  • Organic Farming

Incorporates multiple regenerative practices across the whole farm, alongside higher animal welfare within a legally regulated standard.

  • Regenerative Practices

Look to improve impacts by focusing on soil health and crop diversity.

What is Regenerative Farming?

Regenerative farming is about building soil health. Using farming methods that protect the soil and universe that lies beneath it. Encouraging plant and wildlife diversity. Then most importantly integrating livestock as part of building soil health. At the moment there are no strict guidelines or certification for Regenerative Farming.

Nose-to-tail

Every animal that is born and/or raised at Barnbarroch is important to us. We wanted to make sure that our direct sales of meat was to use as much of each animal as possible. You will see all of the regular cuts such as steaks, mince and roasting joints, but we also make available the tongue, right throughto the tail and most of everything in between. Now we have gone one step further and had some of our own skins turned into leather. Watch this space for what we have planned next!
